ASPIRE is Aldersgate’s Alternative Structured Program to promote Individual Responsibility and Education – a unique offering designed to help and educate those under 21 with alcohol and/or other drug-related offenses. ASPIRE’s basic format is to address the particular issues of each individual participant -- both legal and personal -- in a customized manner.
ASPIRE normally consists of six sessions: one individual meeting, four group meetings with other program participants, and one family session.
Aspire includes:
- An evaluation of the participant’s overall drug and alcohol history and the level of personal at-risk behavior;
- An educational, peer-group component (4 sessions) focusing on substance use and abuse prevention, providing meaningful substance abuse education with clear, consistent messages -- based on factual information -- about the dangers of substance abuse and its legal and physical consequences (Aspire classes are intentionally kept small);
- One individual and one family counseling session to explore problem-solving and decision-making skills, social pressures, motivations and frustrations, as well as family dynamics and available community and personal support-systems;
- Prompt documented feedback of program enrollment to court, police, school liason, or other referral sources, including notification of program completion;
- Prompt notification of non-compliant or extreme at-risk behavior to referral sources of mandated participants.
Sessions can be adapted to assist with a wide range of situations involving drugs and/or alcohol.
Enrollment is completed through a brief phone interview or in-person contact with Aldersgate’s Intake Coordinator. An assigned counselor contacts each participant and promptly schedules the first appointment.
